Terry Redlin is America's most widely collected painter of nature and Americana. Blended from the artists memories and his romantic imagination, each original oil painting begins as a sketch, then is masterfully painted with oil on canvas. For eight years in a row, (1991 - 1998) Redlin was named America's Most Popular Artist through surveys conducted by U.S.ART magazine. His was induction into U.S.ART's Hall of Fame in 1992.
His use of earthy colors, blazing sunrises and sunsets and nostalgic themes are often cited as the reasons for his immense popularity. Redlin’s warm and romantic images are a testimony to his Tom Sawyer-type boyhood and the colorful stories he heard from his uncles and older friends.

Winter Haven
His imagination thrives on such recollections. His mind he admits, is always in reverse. He dreams of, and artfully turns into paintings, a more distant time and place in America’s rural past. It was an era when people still knew their neighbors. When abundant wildlife roamed the landscape. When sunsets were invariably perfect. When the next day offered unknown but exciting opportunities. With his paintings, Terry Redlin invites you to join him on a beautiful journey to magical places, both real and imagined.
Terry Redlin is famous for his immense conservation work. Between 1981 and 1997, his donations to Ducks Unlimited raised more than $28 million, setting an all-time record in art sales for wetland conservation projects. By his own estimate, he has donated several million dollars of art to other nonprofit conservation organizations.
He also was honored by having an elementary school named in his honor in the City of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
The Terry Redlin Elementary School opened in the Fall of 1998.
In this, the final painting in "An American Portrait," the neighborhood is aglow with lights as families prepare for the upcoming holiday season. Dad has just finished hanging the homecoming banner. He has been busy all day getting ready for his son's return. Mom has the tree decorated and lit; and from the house wafts the aroma of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies, his favorite.
